What is The Harvest?

“The Harvest” is not your typical blog—it's a platform where David shares his story as he strives to achieve what most consider unimaginable. This is not a sanitized, cookie-cutter account; it's a brutally honest narrative that delves deep into David's path from low-income youth to Wall Street investor to Vietnamese businessperson.

The name, "The Harvest," symbolizes the process of sowing seeds for a prosperous future. His goal is to inspire readers to pursue their passions with strategic intentionality, not fear.

To set the stage, please allow me to share additional context about the inception of The Harvest below.

The Harvest Begins

In 2019, David was presented with what, in hindsight, was a life-changing opportunity. His classmates invited him to stay in their homes and travel across Southeast Asia. Despite having Vietnamese heritage, David had minimal knowledge of the region. His world revolved around the bustling streets of New York City.

David had much to learn about the region. At the time, most of his knowledge about Thailand came from the movie "The Hangover." To the dismay of his Thai friends, he even thought Thailand, a country with nearly 72 million people, was an island. This trip was his first to Asia, and it reshaped his perspectives on life.

As a broke college student, David was acutely aware of his meager financial resources. That's why he entered Wall Street - to change his economic trajectory. In 2019, he had a mere $5,000 to his name, making purchasing a plane ticket feel like an insurmountable obstacle. However, fate had a serendipitous encounter in store for him.

His grandfather, a decorated Vietnam War veteran, unexpectedly gifted him plane tickets to Vietnam and Thailand. In hindsight, that generous act turned out to be David's very own Golden Ticket, granting him access to some of the happiest days of his life. He never forgot that trip.

From 2019 to 2023, David dedicated himself to his college studies and career on Wall Street. Despite the demands of the environment, David's mind remained fixated on the possibilities that awaited him if he were to one day return to Southeast Asia, this time to stay. That dream became a beacon of hope that guided him through moments of doubt and uncertainty. David was well aware of the formidable odds stacked against him—learning new languages, adapting to new cultures, and bidding farewell to his beloved friends and family.

Thankfully, David is no stranger to boldly defying the odds. Those who know his story understand just how far he has come. Success in Southeast Asia is far from guaranteed, but that is part of the thrill.

Welcome to The Harvest - we hope you enjoy the journey.
